Data Base Administration Manager

Responsibilities:

Manage the UNIX Database Administration staff. Meet with DBA’s to check on status of project deliverables, issues and update project plans. Coordinates communications between Database Administration and Project Personnel. Attend Status, Issue, Architecture, Performance, etc. meetings of projects.  Setup any needed Project Meetings. Produces reports for Manager and Project Management to show Project Status, Deliverables and Issues.  OCP and/or MCDBA certification required.  Five years experience in designing, maintaining, and administering large Oracle and/or SQL databases. Five years experience with a progressive level of responsibility in database administration strategies utilizing UNIX and/or Microsoft technologies.  Three years management experience.

Responsibilities include defining educational plans for employees; training; planning, assigning, and direction of work; addressing complaints; resolving problems; interviewing; hiring; reviewing and approving time cards; scheduling vacations; rewarding and disciplining employees; and preparing performance and salary reviews.  Conducts team meetings to keep everyone informed of projects status, standards, and DBA procedures to be followed. Review project requests to obtain time frames, determine DBA to be assigned and any additional staffing requirements. Working with all DBA Project Leaders in Database Administration along with all DBA’s to determine what our standards and procedures will be. Also, make changes to them as needed. Ensures that DBA’s are knowledgeable about all appropriate databases, applications and their modifications in production to provide support. Ensure that the primary DBA on a project provides all other DBA’s appropriate cross-training and documentation. 

Demonstrate thorough knowledge of business area information modeling. Able to apply physical design techniques to logical models. Instructs on physical database design techniques.  Understands and is able to use and instruct others on the use of CASE tools. 

Facilitate the resolution of cross-project reconciliation issues. Communicate the benefits of standardization. Responsible for transferring knowledge of physical database design concepts to key personnel. Ability to explain the roles and responsibilities of the Database Administration function. Help develop strategies and/or procedures to manage physical database structures  in coordination with all other managers in Database Administration. Understand the functionality of change management tools/process. Instruct others on the use of such tools. 

Recommends database standards and procedures to Database Administration Manager. Periodically reviews standards and procedures.

Requirements: 

Master’s degree (MSCS, MSCIS or MBA).
Industry certifications in UNIX and database technologies.
Five years experience in a medical environment.
